StrategiesIn order to prevent mycotoxicosis and the associated problems, the control of fungal growth it is very important at all phases. The detection of contaminated feedstuffs is the primary defense against mycotoxins and affected ingredients can be rejected. Inclusion of fungal inhibitors such propionate will suppress the fungal growth and hence toxin production. Dilution of contaminated grain with clean grain is often used to reduce mycotoxin levels to below toxic levels. However, this practice presents a significant risk, as you never know exactly how many mycotoxins are present and at what level and what the toxic levels for the specific ecosystem and animal in question are. Otherwise the entire mixture may become contaminated. It should also be noted that the practice of dilution with sound grain is not permitted in some countries
