What is the cost of mycotoxins on poultry production ?The cost of mycotoxicosis is very difficult to determine because all toxins decrease performance or cause apparent disease which will be different under different environmental and management conditions. The financial impact of mycotoxins on a parent broiler breeding enterprise can be calculated by quantifying the effect on liveability, egg production, hatchability and loss in future chick production as a result of mortality. Aflatoxin and Trichothecenes can adversely affect carcass quality. Mycotoxins can induce bruising, elevate mortality during transport and contribute to septicemia following immunossupression.
